A new exciting project for Ethiopian director Yared Zeleke

Director Yared Zeleke is developing his second feature project, provisionally called Sunbirds.

The film is a road-trip with some elements of a thriller. It explores global inequality, patriarchy and exploitation through the adventures of two sisters who flee rural poverty and head to the city.

The film will be produced by Addis Ababa-based Mehret Mandefro. Mandefro recently produced Zeresenay Mehari’s Sweetness In The Belly, starring Dakota Fanning.

Yared Zeleke is a very talented Ethiopian film director from Addis Ababa. He has an M.F.A. in Writing and Directing from New York University. His first feature film,  Lamb premiered Un Certain Regard in 2015 and it was the first Ethiopian movie to be selected for Cannes Film Festival.
